New center for Nidderau

The town of Nidderau in the northeast of Frankfurt am Main is an amalgamation of several smaller villages without an identity-forming center. With the Nidder Forum on Konrad-Adenauer-Allee between the villages of Windecken and Heldenbergen, this urban planning deficit has finally been remedied. In terms of urban development, Nidderau’s New Center is divided into two sub-areas, with a new town square and residential uses on the one hand and a new shopping focal point and public areas on the other. An essential component of the Neue Mitte is the Nidder Forum with its diverse retail uses on 22 rental spaces, which are arranged around a large, flexibly usable parking area with around 290 parking spaces.

Around 80% of the space was already leased at the time of the groundbreaking ceremony. The largest tenants are a REWE fresh food store, dm drugstore, AWG-Mode and K+K Schuhe as well as the cultural center of the town of Nidderau. The mix of sectors is supplemented by other providers from the retail, service and restaurant sectors.

Sky Lounge with a view

Based on a design by the Düsseldorf office of RKW Architektur + Städtebau, a bright, friendly and transparent architecture was built, characterized by a loose sequence of white rendered surfaces and wood-look trespa. A special highlight of the Nidder Forum is the so-called “Sky Lounge”, which – reminiscent of an aerofoil – represents a structural high point at the transition between Konrad-Adenauer-Allee and Stadtplatz. It houses a restaurant with an outdoor terrace offering a spectacular view of the green Nidder meadows and, in good weather, as far as the Frankfurt skyline.

Construction of the Nidder Forum began in April 2015 and the opening took place in June 2016.
